A South Pasadena man accused of killing his 5-year-old son after a trip to Disneyland in April pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree murder.
Aramazd Andressian Sr., 35, will be sentenced to 25 years to life in prison when he returns to court on Aug. 23.
The boy’s family audibly wept as the prosecutor read the charges and mentioned the dead boy’s name. Aramazd “Piqui” Andressian Jr.’s mother, Ana Estevez, sat in the courtroom’s front row clutching a small white urn.
After the hearing, Andressian’s defense attorney, Ambrosio Rodriguez, said his client wanted to plead guilty from the beginning, but Rodriguez wanted to make sure it was the correct way to proceed.
Rodriguez said that Andressian told authorities where to find his son’s body, which led to the discovery of the remains.
“Today it’s all about the fact that he took responsibility in a very big way,” Rodriguez said. “He is beyond words in regretting having committed such an act.”
The boy’s remains were found June 30 near Lake Cachuma in Santa Barbara County after a search that lasted more than two months. Authorities have not released a cause of death for the child.
