When someone you care about is arrested, finding out where they are being held is often your first priority. In Los Angeles, that can be confusing because the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, LAPD, and other municipal police departments operate separate custody facilities.
This directory covers the main county jail facilities, the county’s Inmate Reception Center, and the three detention facilities currently listed by LAPD. It does not include every municipal holding cell, sheriff’s station lockup, juvenile facility, state prison, or federal detention center in Los Angeles County.
Before traveling or arranging bail, confirm the person’s current location directly with the agency holding them.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department operates county custody facilities in Los Angeles, Lynwood, and Castaic. The addresses below identify the facilities; confirm the appropriate public entrance and visiting instructions before traveling.

An arrest elsewhere in Los Angeles County may involve a municipal police department or a sheriff’s station rather than one of LAPD’s three facilities.
If you know which agency made the arrest, contact that agency first and ask:
Do not assume someone remains at the station where they were first taken. Confirm their current location each time you make arrangements.
Start with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department website and follow its official inmate information resources.
LAPD also identifies 213-473-6100 as a public custody information number for people held in LAPD or LASD facilities. Have the person’s full legal name and date of birth available. Recent bookings may not appear immediately; LAPD notes that records are unavailable for bookings within the preceding two hours.
If a search does not return a result, check the spelling and contact the arresting agency. An unsuccessful search alone does not confirm that the person has been released.
Keep a simple record of the information you receive, including the booking number, facility, and time of your last update.
Finding the correct address is only the first step in planning a visit. Ask the facility about:
Visiting guidelines differ by facility, so avoid relying on another family’s experience or an older online listing. LASD directs visitors to facility-specific guidance.
Once you locate your loved one, ask about their current release status. Having a facility address does not establish whether a bail bond is available or necessary.
Confirm whether monetary bail has been set, whether a hearing is required, and whether any other hold affects release. A criminal defense attorney can address legal questions about release eligibility. A licensed bail bond agent can explain the bond process when a bond applies.
Before signing a bond agreement, request a clear explanation of the premium, payment terms, collateral requirements, and co-signer responsibilities.
Accurate custody information helps families take the next step with more confidence. Start by confirming where your loved one is held, gathering their booking details, and checking their release status.
If they are eligible for a bail bond in Los Angeles County, contact Escape Bail Bonds to discuss the process and required information. Have their full name, booking number, facility, and available bail details ready.
Facility operations and visiting procedures can change. Confirm current information with the responsible law enforcement agency before traveling.
